When I was a small child_ I remember the special treat of going CAMPING

When I was a small child, I remember the special treat of going CAMPING! We went to Victoria, BC to see family on my very first flight out of Alberta. It was lush, green, and beautiful. I remember the smell of the trees, and that it rained a LOT. But there was a certain smell, and a feeling of peace. And the SLUGS and frogs were HUGE!!! Ha!!
I also took my first ferry ride and saw whales!! That was one of the best childhood memories I have
As I grew, some of my fondest memories were camping near various Alberta lakes near Lac La Biche. My parents appreciated nature, and wanted my sister and I to enjoy the very best experiences. We explored and hiked – learning so much about the world around us. The mountains were also some of our very favorite early memories.
I am so grateful that our parents did their very best in finding opportunity for us to learn and to create memories. These are experiences that we won’t ever forget
My uncle Myles helped me catch my first fish when I was 9 years old! I was so excited!! We cleaned and prepared the fish with salt and butter – cooking it slowly over a campfire. Oh My Goodness!! That was the best fish EVER.
Camping was no longer a priority in my teen years. In my 20’s, As our family grew, small children were sometimes challenging to bring camping! Especially if they like exploring nature and wandering off!! OMG! Stress!!!!
And now that the kids are older and transitioning to independence, I realize the importance of reconnecting with nature. As well as the value of ‘unplugging’ and just taking a deep breath, away from the fast pace of the city.
I appreciate hearing the birds early in the morning as we have our morning coffee. I appreciate the lakes, the bushes and trees, and the beautiful clouds in the sky. The colors are vibrant, especially during my favorite season – Autumn. The night sky, far from the city shines bright with stars and the moon- It is simply stunning
I appreciate good music, drinks, and laughter around the campfire – creating memories with our friends and family. Creating memories with our own children.. because that is what life is all about!
